In my opinion the worst movie in the franchise to date, it effectively removed the rose-colored glasses from the faces of fans. The sour taste of "The Last Jedi," which was released only five months ago, was most likely still on many fans tongues. It is for this reason, and this reason alone, that I believe caused the massive flop that was "Solo."įocusing on the origin story of popular character Han Solo, the movie only made half as much as its other one-off Star Wars counterpart, "Rogue One." The fans expect a certain degree of quality in main entries of the movie series, and Disney has missed the mark completely. The Star Wars fanbase, a huge reason why the franchise has been as successful as it has over the years, is also generally unhappy with the new films. I am anything but pleased with the direction that Disney has taken Star Wars since they acquired the franchise a few years ago. So, following that logic, one would expect that I would be all for the new movies currently being released under the supervision of the Disney Corporation.

I loved the prequels (despite what anyone says they are good movies), I owned many of the franchise’s video games, I had innumerable LEGO sets and other toys. I myself have been a huge fan of the franchise since I was a child. It is Star Wars that I really want to focus on here. "Harry Potter," "Jurassic Park," and most importantly, "Star Wars," can all be put on the list as well.

Marvel is a repeat offender in this regard for obvious reasons. Now I’m not bashing these storytelling modes by any means, but I do think it is an issue when a majority of this summer’s blockbusters are one of these. Remakes and reboots and prequels and sequels are the names of the game right now. Hollywood appears to be at a loss for ideas at the moment. I will save my video game rant for another day, today I want to discuss movies. This problem has been especially evident in popular video game franchises such as Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and more recently Fallout. The issue of franchises straying from their fanbases seems to have become a growing trend in the entertainment industry as of late.
